Luxury holidays in Salzburg

It’s fitting that a city as well seasoned as Salzburg is named after salt: but where its wealth was once mined from saline rocks, today’s treasures are cultural – world-class opera and classical music, Mozart mania and a dash of the family Von Trapp. Salzburg’s Christmas market comes laced with effortlessly festive cheer; and whenever you’re in town, there’s always the scenic wrapping of Austrian Alps. And yes, you can still visit Salzburg’s salt mines…

When to go

A gateway to a clutch of ski resorts in winter, Salzburg is not a city to overlook in any season, with weatherproof museums, galleries and shops – but of course, it’s in its summer finery from June through August.
