When to go

A gateway to a clutch of ski resorts in winter, Salzburg is not a city to overlook in any season, with weatherproof museums, galleries and shops – but of course, it’s in its summer finery from June through August.

Getting there

  • Planes

Salzburg Airport is served by direct flights from cities across the Continent. Munich in Germany and Innsbruck are your next nearest options, around two, and two and a half hours away by road respectively.
  • Trains

Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is the main rail hub for the city, with connections across Austria, beyond to German cities including Stuttgart and Munich, and Nightjet sleeper services to Brussels and Paris several times a week.
  • Automobiles

You won’t need a car to navigate around the city, but if you’re heading to the mountains, having your own wheels will come in handy.
