Talk about ageing gracefully; with over 400 years under its belt, the hotel’s Cascon vine is the oldest in Galicia and still produces over 300 kilos of grapes each year. You can taste the fruits of its centuries-strong labour at Tribu restaurant, where its rare strain of red stuff is served by pipette.
At the hotel
Spa, vineyards and wine cellar. Free WiFi throughout. In rooms: Minibar filled with bottled water; Casa Beatnik branded hats and bags; Valérie Barkowski bathrobes, towels and linens; Claus Porto bath products.
Our favourite rooms
Suite 4 is a delightful pick ‘n’ mix of antique and contemporary features with Jordi Mollà originals lining the walls. But those looking to push the boat out should opt to lay their weary heads in the hotel’s Chapel; set away from the main manor, this particularly private paradise features a dome-roofed bedroom and a sultry, stone-walled annex with toasty heated floors.
Poolside
Overlooking the vineyard, the show-stopping saltwater pool is an instant favourite of the Instagram-inclined, lined with handcrafted zellige tiles which give it a photogenic firehouse-red glow. Its wine-red waters are best observed from one of the surrounding day-beds, margarita-goggles optional.
Spa
Casa Beatnik’s spa consists of two curved Iglusaunas (a traditional Estonian cabin shaped like an igloo) handcrafted in Estonia using centuries-old shingling techniques. Both electric and wood-burning, that latter doubles as a treatment room where the hotel’s therapists dish out a range of full-body and specialised massages. Outside, you’ll also find a rainfall shower powered by fresh mountain spring water to refresh between sessions.
Packing tips
Ordinarily, we’d say pack your straw staples – wide-brim hats and bottomless beach bags – as it stands, the Casa has it covered, handmade in Morocco nonetheless.
Also
There’s an accessible ground-floor suite for guests with mobility issues.
Children
Leave the little ones behind, this beatnik boutique is one for the grown-ups.
