Setting

South of Sciacca

Rocco Forte Private Villas scores a double advantage: these Olga Polizzi-designed casas sit in the want-for-nothing Verdura Resort estate. A private chef and butler can do the heavy lifting, plus a dedicated concierge scores top points with pizza-making classes, starlit film nights and in-villa massages. The villas open annually from mid-March until November.

At the hotel

Private garden, two e-bikes and a golf buggy to borrow, free WiFi throughout, TVs in the living room and every bedroom, air-conditioning and Irene Forte bath products.

Our favourite rooms

Each villa is suited to big family clans, but Topazio or Corallo are the most spacious. A citrus colour palette and bold patterns run through the contemporary villas, thanks to interior designer Olga Polizzi’s Sicily-referencing curation. Sea-facing private gardens with a pool are the star of the show, or take like a duck to water in the sunken bath tub of your master ensuite.

Poolside

Each villa comes with its own lap-worthy pool, which is lined with sunloungers and looks out to the sparkling Med. You’re welcome to dip in Verdura Resort’s pool too, but we can’t imagine you’ll want to forgo your privacy…

Spa

Verdura Resort’s Irene Forte Spa is oh-so-Sicilian: set around an open-air courtyard, the souped-up space is lined with orange groves and olive trees, which form the basis of the botanicals used in your treatments. Countryside-surveying thalassotherapy pools, a Finnish sauna and relaxation area prolong your post-treatment peace, or retreat from it all with an in-villa massage instead.

Packing tips

You’ll want to pack all your activewear and a selection of swimwear – days here are easily filled around the tennis courts, at a fitness class or doing watersports.

Also

If you tire of playing house, wander (or whizz – each villa has its own golf buggy) over to neighbouring all-frills Verdura Resort and revel in hotel perks, such as their spa, gym, tennis courts, kids’ club and restaurants.

Pet‐friendly

One pampered pet can be accommodated in each villa, but the rest of the resort is for humans only. See more pet-friendly hotels in Sicily.

Children

Welcome. Each villa can accommodate an extra bed and family-friendly kit can be provided. The resort’s kids’ club has all-ages activities and babysitting can be arranged for an additional charge.

Best for

All ages.

Recommended rooms

Each villa sleeps at least six people, plus an extra bed can be added to all.

Crèche

The resort’s kids’ club Verdùland caters to all ages, and access is included with your villa stay. Activities might include cooking lessons, tennis, volleyball, golf and watersports, plus horse riding and beach outings.

Babysitting

Food and Drink

Top Table

The villa’s pergola-shaded tables are primed for lingering lunches and sea-breeze-kissed dinners.

Dress Code

As you like in your villa, something more spruced-up if you’re dining at the resort.

Hotel restaurant

Staying in a private villa doesn’t mean you’re left to your own devices: a chef and butler can be on standby for grocery shopping, stocking the pantry with Sicilian snacks and hosting family-friendly cooking classes or pizza-making evenings. Breakfast is included with your stay, and you can choose from a Continental feast at home or a day-starting spread at the resort's Buongiorno restaurant. Cooking aficionados could take the reins in the fully equipped kitchen, or if no one fancies taking the culinary lead, Verdura’s four restaurants generously supply Mediterranean-inspired fare.

Hotel bar

Sip a glass of Sicilian sparkling wine by your pool or on one of the sea-facing balconies at your villa. Or swap secluded for spirited at one of Verdura Resort’s bars: sundowners come in the form of spritzes and speciality cocktails at Granita and the pool bar.

Worth getting out of bed for

You might have to get out of bed, but at least you won’t have to leave your pad at Rocco Forte Private Villas to get a piece of the action: your concierge can arrange in-villa spa treatments, family yoga classes and film nights under the stars. And adventures continue beyond your villa with horse riding through the Verdura estate, quad biking past olive groves and fishing on the Med. Staff can also organise helicopter and boat trips, plus biking and hiking tours. You’ll find a private beach, tennis courts and watersports at the resort, as well as sports coaching programmes and cottage-cum-cooking-school La Casetta nell'Orto, where you can learn how to make Sicilian classics.

Local restaurants

For delicately presented plates featuring catch of the day, fresh pasta and Sicily-sourced ingredients, make a beeline for port-facing Ristorante La Lampara in Sciacca. Refined Ristorante Sciacca Hostaria del Vicolo impresses with locally inspired dishes, including a selection of Sicilian cheeses and wine. Head to traditional Trattoria Al Faro for fuss-free fare and just-caught seafood.

As soon as our reviewers have returned from their private villa in Italy and unpacked their artisan ceramics and olive oil, a full account of their coastal break will be with you. In the meantime, to whet your wanderlust, here's a quick peek inside Rocco Forte Private Villas in Sicily…

It’s a family affair at Rocco Forte Private Villas: the eponymous hotelier has collaborated with his interior-designer sister Olga Polizzi and skincare-mogul daughter Irene Forte to create a collection of private pads on the Verdura Resort estate. Olga’s Italian-inspired interiors take cues from the Sicilian surroundings (views of the Mediterranean Sea backdrop each casa) and you can lather up with Irene’s organic products in the master ensuite’s sunken bath tub.

You too will keep things close to home at these family-friendly villas, with options to dip into all-ages yoga sessions, pizza-making evenings or themed parties for your little Smiths. But it’s not just the young ‘uns that are looked after: a private butler, chef and nanny ensure that the adults have just as much enhanced downtime. And if you feel the urge to fly the nest, you’ll find all the fine-tuned frills of Verdura Resort just next door...
